Mechanical Booster Pumps (Roots Vacuum Pumps)

A Roots vacuum pump compresses and exhausts gases using a pair of counter-rotating lobe-shaped rotors. It is also known as a mechanical booster pump because it is placed in front of a primary vacuum pump, such as an oil-sealed rotary pump, to increase pumping speed.

A Roots vacuum pump (mechanical booster pump) requires a primary vacuum pump, such as a dry vacuum pump, an oil-sealed rotary pump, or a liquid ring vacuum pump, to compress to atmospheric pressure.

Features

  • The strong main rotary shaft enables start-up and continuous operation in low vacuum.

  • The motor capacity can be customized to fit the load, reducing initial and operating costs.

  • Lineup with a wide range of pump speeds, from 90 to 12,000 m3/h

  • Works with various backing pumps, including oil-sealed rotary pumps and liquid ring vacuum pumps.

  • The suction chamber is oil-free, using minimal power to produce a clean vacuum.

  • Improves the base pressure of the backing pump by one or two figures.

  • The performance remains unchanged with condensable gas.

Optional

  • Mechanical booster pumps (Roots vacuum pumps) have an allowable pressure difference between the inlet pressure and backing pressure. Operating outside the allowable range may result in motor overloads or excessive uncontrollable heat. To address this, Osaka Vacuum’s mechanical booster pumping system can be fitted with a relief valve to automatically adjust the pressure if it exceeds the allowable range. This enables the pump to perform at maximum exhaust capacity even in high inlet pressure ranges.

  • Inverter control allows driving from atmospheric pressure, and pressure control at low inlet pressure levels. Also, depending on the model and region, the rotation speed of the pump can be increased to increase the pumping speed by a maximum of up to 40%.

RA SERIES

Small Mechanical Booster Pumps

Point

  • Feature a compact footprint for easy integration into existing systems.

  • The wetted surface won’t rust thanks to its aluminum alloy material.

  • Because the internal shaft seal is a non-contact type, the maintenance interval is 2 or 3 times longer than the existing type.

  • Operator can check two oil level at the same side, one at the oil supply port and the other at the drain port.

  • Low noise, and low vibration.
